Benyamin Sueb

Benyamin Sueb (March 5, 1939 – September 5, 1995) was an Indonesian comedian, singer, and actor of Betawi descent. He had produced more than 75 music albums and participated in 35 movies. He is often credited as Benjamin S or Benyamin S. He was also referred to as Bang Ben or "Brother Ben" by his fans.
Personal life
Benyamin Sueb was born in Kemayoran, Jakarta on 5 March 1939 to parents Suaeb and Aisyah. He was a singer, comedian, film producer and the main director of the Jiung Movies Company. He path through education; Elementary School : Bendungan Jago, Jakarta (1946–1951) and Santo Yosef Bandung (1951–1952), Junior High School : Taman Madya Cikini, Jakarta (1955), Senior High School : Taman Siswa, Jakarta (1958), Akademi Bank Jakarta (not completed); Course in Lembaga Pembinaan Perusahaan & Ketatalaksanaan (1960), Military Basic Exersice in Kodam V Jaya (1960), Course in Lembaga Administrasi Negara (1964).
With a voice between baritone and bass, he brought the songs typically Betawi. Among the song-music that is famous; Si Jampang, Ondel-ondel, Bang Puase, Nyai Dasima, Terasi Garem, Tukang Garem, and Tukang Kredit. The main current in the film Dunia Belum Kaiamat and Biang Kerok (1970).
In Indonesian Film Festival, he achieved Citra award as the best actor in Intan Berduri (1972) and Si Doel Anak Modern (1976). Benyamin was also the producer and director in films such as: Duyung Ajaib (1978), Setan Jalanan, Setan kubur, Tarzan Kota, Tarzan Pensiunan. He appeared in as many as 27 movies.
Benyamin went to Mecca to complete the Islamic pilgrimage of Hajj for the fourteenth time. He died on 5 September 1995 after being in a coma for a few days. Benyamin is buried in Karet Bivak, Jakarta.
